"That is the fundamental nature of gifts, they move, and their value increases with each passage. The more something is shared the greater its value becomes." Barbara Wall Kimmerer
It's an Experiment.
What does it take to really help someone? Does it require the structures of professional counseling? Is it possible for an interaction between strangers on the street to change someone's life for the better?
It's an Adventure.
Street Counseling is the pursuit of an adventure without a destination, of doing something without fully knowing why.
It's me, standing on the street, in the heart of San Francisco’s business district, with a sign that says "Free counseling." Whether I'm supporting an executive, screaming at the top of my lungs with a teenager, or unpacking the labels of mental health with a "schizophrenic", it's always a thrill to bring counseling into the real, raw, everyday world. I never know what will unfold, I'm just there to help along whatever is trying to happen.
Have you ever....?
Have you ever pursued something before understanding why? Have you ever been inspired to follow an idea just to see what it becomes? How do you know which impulses lead to meaning and purpose?
